Charles Doherty is a trained and versatile vocalist having trained in musical theatre at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, whose famous alumni include Hugh Jackman, Tim Minchin, Francis O’Connor, Jai Courney and many more.
Variety
Charles was also an opera artist with Opera Australia for over 6 years appearing in over 20 productions. This is Charles entertaining audiences with Deborah Myers and Ian Virgo in Malta for Bronowski EC1 Productions.
Race You to the Top of the Morning
This track is from Tony Award Winning musical The Secret Garden based on the 1911 novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The musical’s script and lyrics are by Marsha Norman, with music by Lucy Simon. It premiered on Broadway in 1991 and ran for 709 performances.
Arabian Nights
Charles toured internationally for Cameron Mackintosh (Oliver!) and Andrew Lloyd Webber (Evita, Cats and Joseph) productions. Arabian Nights from Disney’s Aladdin (Ashman and Menkin) is a favourite audition piece because it showcases character, melody and range (Ab).
Larger Than Life
The song “Larger Than Life” is featured in the musical “My Favourite Year”, which premiered on Broadway in 1992. The music for the show was composed by Stephen Flaherty and the lyrics were written by Lynn Ahrens. It’s a terrific Journey song that intimately balances humour and emotion.
UK tours include Thoroughly Modern Millie and Jerry Springer the Opera. Awards include best performance: Ireland National One Act Theatre Festival in 2015, NODA performance award in 2019, and recipient of a Young Australian of the Year award 1997.
