The Adversary (2023)
The Adversary is a graduation film from the Arts University of Bournemouth. Written and directed by Rosy Birchall the film is an interrogation room drama with a twist. Charles Doherty plays Inspector William Anderson who meets his match in local madam Sybil Phillax played by Francine Brody. The film screened at BFI.
The Oath (2024)
The Oath is a graduation film from Northumbria University Film School. Written and directed by Julia Sokolowska the film dramatises the birth of modern gynaecology. Charles Doherty plays Dr Ephriam McDowell who pioneers lifesaving Surgury on Jane Todd Crawford played by Laura Lee Daly. The film has been widely praised and was a finalist for “Best Student Short Film” at the 2025 Royal Television Society Awards.
Take Ten (2022)
Take Ten is a graduation film for The London College of Communication. Written and directed by Theo Brown the film is a remarkable one-take comedy-drama about what happens when chaos erupts behind the scenes on a film set. Charles Doherty plays Paris, a seasoned and somewhat sozzled veteran shakespeare actor.
Small Talks (2022)
Small Talks is written and directed by George Sheard. A graduation film for The London School of Film, Media and Design. Charles Doherty plays Robert, a friendly and warm London taxi driver with a dark secret. Hollie Hurrell, won a best actress award for her performance as Chloe at the Infinity Film Festival.
The Unwinding (2023)
Small Talks is written and directed by Brendan Davis. This independent short film gained over 300K views on YouTube for its challenging themes around aging, loneliness and Dementia and was a finalist for “Best European Short Film” at the 2025 Liverpool International Indie Film Festival. Charles Doherty plays Chris a long term colleague and concerned friend of David, played by Kevin West.
Benjamin (2022)
Benjamin is written and directed by Joseph Dowling and a CGI team from Hertfordshire University. This is the version used to showcase the animation for graduation. It is hoped that a full short film version will be available soon. Charles Doherty plays a photographer taking the last ever image of a Tasmania Tiger before it became extinct.
Gut Punch (2023)
Small Talks is written and directed by Tom Lawson for the Northumberland University School of Film. On the night of one of her biggest fights, amateur boxer Chloe must try to keep her composure after the sudden appearance of her manipulative ex-boyfriend. Charles Doherty plays JB, the unscrupulous owner of the boxing gym.
Instinctive (2023)
Instinctive is a sci-fi short film written by Daniel Regnard and directed by Michael Kelly for the Portsmouth School of Film. The film follows the emergence of an artificial intelligence and her escape from captivity. Charles Doherty plays Oliver, a janitor who helps Adele, played by Alexia Price, free herself.
She, My Angel. (2022)

Waiting for Coda (2024)
Another independent short written and directed by Theo Brown (Take Ten). This independent short film is another one shot creation mixing noir styles and asks the question of what you would do if you had 10 minutes to live. Charles Doherty plays Smith, a university professor with foreknowledge of impending doom.
Family Ties (2023)
What is the New York Mafia moved into a British city? Family Ties is written and directed by Sebastian Lazaroiu, a graduation film for the University of Portsmouth. In early 80s Portsmouth, the Calvario family is reigning over the crime-ridden city. After a long-desired promotion, Russ (Charles Doherty) must hope that luck is on his side in dealing with his new responsibilities, his ex-wife, and a loose cannon partner.
Perfect Repair (2023)
Perfect Repair is a romantic comedy written and directed by Yiding Wang for the University for the Creative Arts. Filmed near Guildford, Charles Doherty plays Kevin, an Irish actor who is not a plumber, who is enlisted by Jimmy (Matt Fuzia) to help him woo Ellie (Kirsty Howe).
The Department at the end of the World (2022)
Written and directed by Lucas Barker. This bonkers graduations short film was created for the Sunderland School of Film. Charles Doherty plays God…enough said.
Return to the Stage (2025)
Written and directed by Andrew Parkin, Return to the Stage is a graduation short film for Northumbria University School of Film. (This version has been altered with the addition of music to frame the performance.) Filmed over 2 days, Charles Doherty portrays a classical actor completing his stage return as Prospero in Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
